AIAS Guest Lecture | Saša Begovć
founder and partner at Croatian architecture firm 3LHD

6 p.m., S. R. Crown Hall, Center Core

The American Institute of Architecture Students at Illinois Tech (iitAIAS) is proud to present Saša Begović, founding partner and principal architect at Croatian architecture firm 3LHD, as its guest lecturer for spring 2019. Begović will speak at S. R. Crown Hall in the lower core on April 17, discussing his experiences as an architect trained in Croatia, his firm’s work, and dialogues between Croatian and American architecture, elaborating on the differences between architecture in the two regions in terms of culture, influences, regulations, and more.

Begović and 3LHD have worked on projects that range from residential and hospitality to public spaces and infrastructure. The firm has received international acclaim for a number of noteworthy projects, including both a European Hotel Design Award and International Hotel Award for Hotel Lone in Rovinj, Croatia, as well as an Architizer A+ award for the Karlovac Freshwater Aquarium in Karlovac, Croatia. Begović is also highly active in architecture education, having taught at Cornell, ETH Zurich, and Northeastern University in Boston, among others.

According to iitAIAS Chapter President Andrew Jiang (ARCH 4th year), Begović was selected to speak this semester after the group had the realization that too often lectures only feature American architects.

“We saw this as an excellent chance to invite an international architect to perform a comparison and contrast with American architecture for those who are interested in practicing overseas after graduation to expand their professional horizons,” says Jiang.
