The 2016 Louis Vuitton Spark Award winners from IIT Architecture Chicago will be celebrated with an installation based upon their winning project at the Shops At North Bridge on Michigan Avenue.

The Louis Vuitton Spark Award, presented by Louis Vuitton and the City of Chicago’s Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events, honors an outstanding student from the IIT College of Architecture’s undergraduate and graduate Cloud Studio program reflecting the College’s focus on the City of Chicago and “Rethinking Metropolis.”

Maria Del Olmo Gomez and Mina Rezaeian’s award-winning project, “Threads of the City” is a design proposal to create a series of public spaces for the pedestrians who move along Michigan Avenue and its surrounding district. Currently, there are few areas along the Avenue to gather, rest or socialize, leading people to just move from point to point. This design is intended to weave shopping, architecture, fashion and human interaction, thereby enhancing the urban experience. Various seating configurations, pavilions, and interactive panels describingunique characteristics of the City which can be used in all seasons, add layers of activity within the public outdoor space, creating a rich carpet of experience for all to enjoy.
